"KAMAL" - The Lotus Flower

Regular price $100.00

"Woven Through Time" features Artworks inspired from Phulkari and Punjab. Sometimes these are attempts at reproducing rare heirloom Phulkari patterns that are now no longer popularly crafted and at other times, they are merely flowers, animals, scenes, events that are part of the Punjabi scenery, history and culture.

Kamal Da Phul: Literally, "The Lotus Flower" is one of the most popular and beloved flowers in the Phulkari tradition. As the word Phulkari itself suggests a several flowers such as Lotus, Cottonflower and Sunflower (Surajmukhi - Literally, "The Face of the Sun") are created in the form of highly stylized motifs.

The Lotus has a special role to play in Punjabi culture and in the rest of the Indian Sub-continent. It is considered a symbol of spirituality, fruitfulness, wealth, knowledge and illumination, and is the National Flower of India.

This 18" wide x 18" long Acrylic & Watercolor Artwork is finished with a Wooden Frame and a Phulkari Border.
